What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a form of manual therapy used to stretch the fascia. It is a hands-on therapy that treats the whole body in order to bring you relief. The purpose is to relax these tissues or elongate them to restore tissue mobility. Injury, immobilization, disease and aging can result in fascial adhesions or restrictions, resulting in inefficient movement patterns, altered alignment, faulty mechanics and pain syndromes. John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (MFR) treatment approach involves stretching and compression over time to achieve the release of painful restrictions trapped within the body’s fascial system. MFR is gentle and safe for all ages and will help you get back to doing the activities that you love!
What is fascia?
Fascia is a three-dimensional web of tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the entire body without interruption. It connects all of our body parts, surrounding muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, organs and bones down to the cellular level. Fascia gives our body its shape, supporting and stabilizing it to allow the body to resist mechanical forces. Fascia is also highly influential in cellular health and the immune system. When there is malfunction of this complex system due to poor posture, inflammation or trauma, the fascia will bind down causing significant pressure and restrictions. These fascial restrictions must be released to create positive change on all body structures down to the cellular level, resulting in relief of pain and enhanced mobility.
